I bought my poppy in remembrance of my paternal grandfather, who was killed in WW1.
He was about 32 when he was killed leaving my grandmother with 4 young children, my father being the youngest at 3 years old.
He is buried at Boulogne, where he died following injuries sustained at Arras.
His poppy is next to a framed postcard from Boulogne which he sent to my father just before he died. Also a picture of him as a young man.
We have visited his grave on two occasions, and plan to take his poppy next time.
His name was Frederick James Heald.
He also loved entertaining and his name appears on two posters we have as Sapper Leslie
