5 Poppies bought in honour of;
1. my grandfather – Royal Artillery (WW1), who described his war experiences as ‘absolute shite’, apologies for the language but perhaps if you had been at Ypres & Passhendaele you might have felt the same way !;
2.my father – RAF (WW2) who said ‘he hated every minute of the carnage and suffering he witnessed’;
3. my uncle – RAF (WW2) who refused to ever speak of the experience of war;
4. a distant relative commemorated on the Canadian Memorial at Vichy, died May 1917, aged 26;
5. Wilfred Owen, died 4th November 1918 at Ors – 7 days before end of WW1, aged 25.
It seems somehow fitting that they are commemorated by poppies in France where they all served at some stage.
