Ian grew up hearing stories of the war from his Grandfather who survived the battle of the Somme. He displays his poppy with pride.

“Our poppy is in pride of place in our living room. My maternal grandfather survived the battle of the Somme and growing up I heard stories about all his friends from his village not returning.

My father was in the RAF in the Middle East. My wife’s father was also in the Middle East and had to stay long after the war had finished in Palestine.

My wife’s uncle died after D-Day at the battle for Caen. The poppy is our reminder of their sacrifice and our good fortune for those that returned home.”
