My poppy was bought for my aunt’s father Sylvester Grange from Yorkshire who was wounded at Passchendale, transported to an Australian field Hospital in Rouen and died there 27 October 1917. It is placed in a large plant pot which houses a weeping fig. I have produced an album of photos and letters from the front that I gained from my aunt’s effects, to remember his sacrifice for his family who lost their home (a tied cottage). His wife and two daughters aged 9 and 7 eventually emigrated to Australia in 1919 because of this.
