I bought my poppy to remember my great uncle, Harry Victor White, who was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Arras, April 9th 1917.
I was honoured to be able to be present at the Arras memorial this year to commemorate the centenary of his death.
I also visited the Wellington tunnels museum and stood at one of the exits used by the thousands of amassed troops as the battle began. It was a sobering moment and I don’t mind admitting I shed a tear.
