I bought my poppy first and foremost as a thank you to all those who lost their lives in the Great War. One of those people was my great Uncle William Blamey. He came from Fowey in Cornwall but emigrated to Canada where he enlisted. He returned back to England but died of Menengitis days before going to the front line. He is buried at Sldershot, Hampshire and his name appears on the war memorial in Fowey, Cornwall. My father often talked of him and when my father died he died on the same day as William, 17th December. May they rest in peace.
