I bought this poppy in memory of my relation William Stonier who was 19 when he was killed in the Battle of the Somme. His body was never found and his name is on the Thiepval Memorial which we have visited. When his father found out about his sons death he was offered a small pension – he told them ‘if that’s all they think my boy is worth they can keep it’.
William Stonier born 1987 – Aston Birmingham
Killed in Action Sept 1916 – aged 19
