I bought my Poppy in remembrance of my Grandfather, Gunner John Gardner HAYES of the Royal Garrision Artillery, who died of his wounds on 4th October 1917 at Ypres during the third Battle of Paschendale.
The poppy is planted just outside my study window in a pebbled garden so I can see it everyday and I plan to commemorate his death this year at the Menin Gate by laying a wreath, with my son, at the daily Remembrance Ceremony on 4th October 2017, 100 years after my Grandfather died.
