I am the artist and creator of Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. This project has really come full circle with Where are the Poppies Now, which offers everyone the chance to see where the poppies from the original installation are in the world. I really enjoyed the whole process of creating and planting poppies in 2014, and it’s always exciting going around the county with Wave and Weeping Window talking to those who have been touched by the original installation and/or the sculptures themselves. I bought a few poppies back in 2014 to remember my great uncles on my mum’s side who died in World War One, and to remember the installation itself. It’s been a great pleasure to meet people from all over the world and hear about what their poppies mean to them, it’s still overwhelming when thinking about how people have responded to them. I cannot wait to find out if we can reunite the poppies on a digital platform and am very much looking forward to finding more about where they are.
