My poppies were gifts for my 50th birthday nearly three years ago from two close friends. I am extremely thankful to my friends and very proud to own the poppies as they serve as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by all that generation as well as those who have lost their lives in conflicts since then.
I have two great uncles and a great great uncle who lost their lives during WW1.
Leonard Grenway was killed at Ploergsteert, Belgium.
Christopher Wyse was killed near Ypres and his name is on the Menin Gate.
Cornelius Gallagher was killed during the Somme Offensive and is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery.
I had their names and the servicemen that I researched for a local project read out at the Tower when the poppies were on display there. I was also very fortunate to attend the ceremony at the Tower when their names were read out. It was such a moving moment.
We Will Remember Them.
