After finding out my great uncle of my birth family L/Cpl Francis Waldron of the Royal Irish Regiment was killed on The Somme on 14/07/1916 we decided we would visit the Tower of London to see the poppy installation in Sept 2014 and also travel on to France to see his name on the Thiepval Memorial We were able to find his name and get, we were the first of the family to visit. On returning home we found from a cousin of my adopted family that my grandmothers cousin had also been killed on the Somme, Pte Wilfrid McCrickard of the Durham Light Infantry was killed on 01/10/2014, we are visiting the Somme next week to find his name on Thiepval.
Our Poppy is a reminder of the 2 men who gave their lives one Irishman and one Englishman and the almost 900000 men who died in a terrible war.
