Tom Piper MBE, British Theatre Designer and designer of the Tower of London Poppies installation is also an Old Waynflete, an old boy of Magdalen College School, Oxford. 50 of the school’s OWs died during the first World War and the school purchased 50 poppies to commemorate them. In November 2016, as part of MCS’s 2016 Remembrance commemorations,Tom installed the 50 poppies in the school Dining Hall against the natural cross of one of the main windows there.
At the same time, Magdalen College School also created a new war memorial in school and installed a paving stone dedicated to Noel Chavasse, as part of a national scheme to celebrate those awarded VCs in World War I. Noel was also an OW, and one of only three people to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice
