My great uncle John Potter from Ashurst Street, St Helens, Lancs was killed in the war. It is kept in a vase by the fireplace. I ordered 2 poppies. The second poppy is in the living room of my French friend who lives near Toulouse. We met as girls and have been writing to each other for 50 years. We are each others oldest friends. Her uncle was 9 or 10 during the war and learnt English from British soldiers in northern France. They gave him money to go to the shops for chips.
