I bought my poppy in remembrance of both my grandfathers.
My maternal grandfather, James William Fraser Stark, died aged 31 on 24 October 1914, and is remembered on Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais.
My paternal grandfather, William Gordon, fought with the South African Scottish Infantry, and was killed at the battle of Delville Wood, 1918, aged 38. He is buried in the Peronne Road cemetery, Maricourt. I visited his grave in 2012, and was most probably the only member of my family to do so.
I am very proud of my grandfathers.
