I bought my poppy and two others got family members! I visited the display and asked for my Grandma’s cousins names to be read out. They were brothers Private Stanley Shaw and Lance Corporal Alan Louis Shaw of the 4th battalion Seaforth Highlanders. They died on the same day 9th May 1915 aged 25 and 30 respectively. They came from Grantham, Lincs and were the sons of Mr JA Shaw and Mrs AJ Shaw of Harrowby Rd. they are buried in St Vaast Post Cemetry, Richebourg-L’Avoue and Chocques Military Cemetry Pas de Calais.
Unfortunately my poppy was broken but we carefully collected all the pieces and mended it as best we could. It is in a cabinet where it is safe and seen every day, reminding me of my ancestors who made the ultimate sacrifice.
