I was privileged to be a volunteer planter at the Tower of London in July 2014. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life. The mass of poppies before us was so thought-provoking and emotional. I also researched the soldiers for whom there is no known memorial or family and found a corporal with the same unusual surname as our family. I arranged for his name to be included in the roll of honour carried out each evening at the Tower.
I jumped at the chance to own one and secretly hope the one I received might be one I helped to plant! It is displayed with a houseplant in my living room where I can see it every day and I love it. I considered displaying it in a special case but I really like it where it is.
Coincidentally, two weekend breaks I have been on this year have serendipitously been to places where the weeping window has been installed; Derby and Cardiff. Again I found this very moving that more people have been able to see this wonderful installation.
