I bought a poppy to remember the brave ladies of the Women’s Transport Service (F.A.N.Y) who volunteered as nurses in the front line during the First World War. During the Second World War, they did varied jobs some working as agents in France for SOE risking their lives to save others. Some were captured and taken to the concentration camps in Europe and did not survive – they were shot dead. I belong to that Corps now known as The Princess Royals Volunteer Corps (F.A.N.Y) which happily is still going strong – unfortunately a little known Corps but always working in the background.I am proud to be a member albeit now “a country member”.
