I bought two poppies one each for our two daughters in memory of two soldiers who died during WW1 one from each side of our family. Firstly, Bertie Walter Gorrod who served in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (Service No.20799) he died in France on 21st March 1918 aged 31. Secondly, Thomas Scally who served in the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment (Service No.25718) he died in Greece on 11th April 1917 aged 30. I discovered their sacrifice as part of putting together our family tree, to my knowledge these are the only two members of our family who died in WW1. Bertie was from my mum’s side of our family (Sheila Ann Ottley was Gorrod) and Thomas was from my wife’s mum’s side of our family (Helen Fradley was Scally) side of our family who lost their lives in WW1.
