Our poppy is on top of a lighthouse which lights up in our window along with other poppies including our own regimental poppies. We bought the poppy in memory of my Grandad who served with the Lancashires in the First World War he was one of Kitcheners men. He was injured on the Western Front towards the end of 1917 when tanks were introduced and he returned to his home town of Bacup in Lancashire.Because of his injuries, in particular due to gas, he only lived a few more years but friends helped him to attend the opening of the local war memorial. We remember those who died on the front but there were also others who were badly injured and suffered their last few years with the shadows of war over them and by having the poppy from the display we show our appreciation for his sacrifice.
