We bought 5 poppies to make an interesting and moving tribute to all those who served and died in the wars of the 20th Century – especially World War 1.
As a student and teacher of History, World War 1 has always been of great interest to me, and hopefully initiatives such as the Tower of London poppies will ensure that the importance of World War 1 won’t diminish as the years pass.
One of my relatives is buried in France, near Arras. On a sunny day 102 years after his death I visited his grave. Another, who died on the Somme, is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. Like so many he has no known grave. Our poppies are for them, too.
