I bought my Poppy in memory of my Uncle, John Nolan, 1st Battalion, Connaught Rangers. He was my fathers oldest brother. Sadly he died through injuries on July 7th 1915 and is buried in Etaples Cemetery, France. I visited the amazing War Graves cemetery, on the 100 year anniversary of his death, a heart breaking & deeply emotional experience, but amazingly, in the grave next to my uncles is a young soldier from the Hampshire Regiment, I laid the flowers between the headstones for both of the boys, as I come from Hampshire it seemed appropriate. My uncle was born in Templemore, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and as the song says” It is a Long Way to Tipperary” the regimental song of the Connaught Rangers and many regiments. My uncles Poppy is proudly on view in our house and admired by all see it. When we visited the Tower in London, it was an amazing sight, so beautifully planned and a huge thank you to all concerned.
