I bought my poppy in memory of my grandfather Alfred Cawthorne of the Hampshire Reg he was killed in April 1918 he has no known grave his name is on the Jerusalem memorial…he left a widow and three children , the youngest child he never saw …my dad was 3 his elder brother 5 and his baby sister was 1 …he had moved from London to Basingstoke with the family so he could work in the aircraft factory there Hawker Siddley I think ,he didn’t have to join up as he was in a protected occupation but did …also in memory of his older brother who was killed in France in 1917 a year to the month my grandfather was killed
